Igala:the plight of Igala people in Anambra state

IGALA:THE PLIGHT OF IGALA PEOPLE IN ANAMBRA STATE.
lgala is an ethnic group In Nigeria with over ten million population as of now.   The home of the Igala people is situated east of the river Niger and Benue confluence and astride the Niger.
the Igala people share boundary with the igbos(ibo) people at the south, idoma at the east, Benis people at the west and Ebira people at the north.
The Igala people are found in Kogi state with 55 percent of kogi state population and also found in Anambra state, Enugu state, Edo state and Delta state.
The Igala people which are found in the Anambra west are mostly  Mmiata Anam, Umuoba-Abegbu Anam, Umuenwelum Anam, Oroma-Etiti,Umueze Anam, Umudora Anam, Umuikwu Anam, Inoma-Akator, Nzam, Igbedor and Iyiora Anam all from the family of Ogbe the descendants of General Ajida, a notable warrior of Idah origin(Idah is traditional headquarters of Igala kingdom) Ajida is the father of field marshal Ogbe who was married to Iyida.
The  family of ogbe and other Anambra west villages. Anam, Anako, and Akpanam people have recently neglected their real tribe Igala which was the language they were speaking originally as their mother tongue before the Nigeria civil war.
As a Igala tribe in an Igbo state, it is very difficult because Anambra state government has make it compulsory for all the school to speak igbo(ibo) through out which sometime makes it difficult for Igala young one to speak Igala.
Igala people in Anambra west are making a lot of mistakes now because some of them are given igbo names to their children rather than Igala name.  They know that they are Igala people but the Anambra west generations of youths does not really knows who there are rather they thinks they are igbo because most of them bears Igbo names.
The history of Nzam are traces back to descendants of General Ajida, a notable warrior of Idah origin who came to the town. Ajida is the father of field marshal Ogbe who was married to Iyida. He was the first settler of the present place Ogbe area of Anambra west.
In my interview with a man called chinedu Idoko an indigene of the land.  I ask him about himself and his tribes and also his names.
This was his reply,  my names is chinedu Idoko, I am an Igala man,  but I bears igbo names while my father names Idoko Atama an Igala names. I was given the name after the Nigeria civil war in in 1971.
  Speaking further to chinedu.
Why are you people in this Generation doesn't want to give yourself Igala names again?  I don't know maybe it is because we are living in Anambra an Igbo state. But we still speak our Igala language as our mother tongue.
Most youths in Anambra who are bearing Igbo names and some times are not living in Anambra west will thinks that there are igbos not knowing there Igala people.
Our land has lack development and government neglection on our land.  Our only roads that links our town is not something we might talks about because it is not good.
Nzam people must know their origin and try to preserve their origin before it dies off.
An advice to Ogbe family of Anambra west. Stop given your children Igbo names and teach your children how to speak Igala.
Do you know that the king of Nzam originally was called Ide of Nzam. Which means the Guardian of Nzam people. Ide means Guardian in igala not igwe now they are calling them.

Attah Ameh Oboni and Aji iyoko in Ofante Ogugu

LENGENDARY ATTAH AMEH OBONI AND AJI-IYOKO IN OFANTE OGUGU.
This event am about to tells you happens during 1946-1950 not specify exact time.
Attah Of Igala then Attah Ameh Oboni 1st was an Attah who is more respected in the whole Attah history apart from Attah Ayegba Oma-Idoko who rules the kingdom in the 1682 AD. The Attah Ameh Oboni is believed to have a magical power which he use to protect the Igala people from trouble and he use his power to kick against colonialism and Oppression of his people.
But there was a day,  during this period 1946-1950 when he was traveling round his kingdom, he came to Aji iyoko(a  river in ofante "like a spring water now"). He try to pass and cross over the river but unfortunately his horse was taken by the big river. He was very sad and then lay a curse on the river.
Saying: "River you shall no flow anymore, people who want to fetch you will use plate to try to get you into their pot,(meaning you shall not longer be big again but small). You shall not longer pass your boundary anymore, you shall be coming out little by little from the ground"
In Igala:" Aji ebo cha gbegbele ge'n,  ugba MA de gba, ebi dufu ebi dufu".
After that he left there,  and the river became like that as he say up to date, the river is still like that.
As the only natural source of water for ofante people who uses plate and cup to fetch water into their rubber or basin.
Aji Iyoko is located in ofante Ogugu in Olamaboro local government kogi state.
More story about Ameh Oboni loading.

Unjustice act by FULANIS against Igala people

UNJUSTICE ACT BY FULANIS AND THEIR OFFICIALS AGAINST IGALA IN IGALALAND BY ADMIN OJONUGWA.
igala land as we all know is a peaceful and one of the best tribe to live and mingle with because of their friendly nature. Many other non Igala are also living in Igala land now and are welcome but we are overwelcoming FULANIS into our land because of our selfish interest of our elders and local chief who are easily deceived by two factor which are money that has been offered to them by the FULANIS herdsman to stay in their land and another is because of some part of Igala land which their chief are Muslim, they decided to welcome them to their mosque thinking that they have good intentions for their tribe and land but I tell you today that they have zero good intentions for we Igala.
Our Police senior officer in Igala land are hausa/fulanis. Recently an Igala farmer in opkachala was arrested by police men simply because he went to police station to report to them how FULANIS with their cow invaded his land and destroy his crop and farmland instead of hearing him out. An Hausa/fulani police D.P.O order for the arrest of the Igala man. He spent weeks in station before he was released. He was brutally beaten while in police station. The man try but simply because it was a hausa/fulani that is a D.P.O. his right was deprived.
Not too far ago. We all saw how police men(sars) invaded Umomi and killed our people just because of FULANI people who came to our land and we protest. The FULANI went and report us to the police. Why did the police Harken to their plight is because their have an Hausa/fulani as a boss controlling our land for us.
In my Mother Village, in Ofante Ogugu, FULANI caught one of our village woman, they slept with her and rendered her useless. How? It is a sacrilege for a Ogugu woman to sleep with person. That is not her husband. The woman have to go through many pains because of the wicked act by this FULANIS men.
Should we wait for government to come to our aid before we can liberate our land? The FULANIS has a secret agenda on our land, why don't we see. There's no part in Igala land that you will not see FULANI and Hausa. Our street is gradually taken over by FULANI. Mosque in Igala land now are majority hausa/fulani with small percent of Igala. Can't we see this wicked act by FULANIS. A Igala pastor was kidnapped by Hausa/Fulani last week and this set has been doing this act very long time. Can we Igala Christian and Muslim come together and stop this set from invading in our land. Do we Christians and Muslim always pray for our land and people in our place of worship? Do you know that police cannot solve our problems because they are been controlled by FULANIS Boss. They tend to favours hausa/fulanis. God have mercy and help us out as an Igala. May God bless Ane'Igala, May God bless Amoma'Igala.

Igala:When can we get it right by Felix Solomon

IGALA: WHEN CAN WE GET IT RIGHT? BY FELIX SOLOMON(CREDIT)
The Igala Nation stood tallest amidst the committee of the Pre - Colonial Nigerian Nations due to our focused leadership then.
History also has it that Igala Nation span from the present day Koton Karfi down to Ibaji and other surrounding which includes part of Anambra, Edo and Benue. All these happened as a result of the quality of leadership we had in those days.
Our problem started during the colonization when some Igala elites became sycophants, interpreting wrongly to our colonial masters what our people didn't say. The colonial masters used our own people to destroy our unity and integrity.
Creating Igala Native Authority in order to reduce our political influence on other tribes around us that we control.
The real journey into the Minority started with the creation Kabba province that deprived the Igalas of their status of one the powerful ethnic group because instead of stopping at Idah for our political, cultural and economic meetings, we have to travel to Kabba for all the meetings and decisions of the territory.
With the creation of twelve states in 1976 instead of given us our own status we were again trapped in Kwara State making our situation worse than it were because of the distance and conspiracy.
When the Nigerian government created more states, ideally Igala supposed to have a state of her own but our leader were always known to fight for their own interests. We remain a minority again in Benue State.
In 1991 when there was another chance for us to stand solo, while Igala was agitating for Okura State, the Ebira and Okun were agitating for Kogi State. Is it that we didn't have people that could push us? Why do we always get it wrong?
Well in Kogi we had the power but they (Okun and Ebira) had the name and the Capital. Are we still minority in Kogi? My answer could be NO because we have ruled Kogi State since from creation until lately when God called Audu
How did Yahaya Bello came to power remains a mirage to every Igala sons and daughters.
With our population how did Yahaya Bello came second in the primary election?
I think something is wrong with us fundamentally, I think we need to do more, I think the youths of today are still towing the part of Igala of yestergeneration that have allowed us to remain in a minority camp since from the inception.
Let us wake up and do things differently, you don't do things same way and get different result.
Igala is because bigger than all of us, the fall of Igala is the fall of every family in Igala land. Wake up my people, let there be unity. If we are the leaders of tomorrow let us put to test today.
Thank you all

Igala tradition and culture with religion

IGALA RElIGION AND IGALA TRADITION AND CULTURE.
The advent of foreign religion like Christains And Islam(muslim) has affected us both positive and negative. We some times misunderstood what religion is all about and what tradition is all about. Our pride as a tribe(Igala) is not language but our culture, value, norms and tradition. We Igala are religion blinded by foreigner. Our tradition has been there for over 100s of years ago (centuries past). Our fore fathers are not Christian or Muslim. It is only in Igala that we use religion as an excuse for anything tradition. Saudi Arabia people that brought Islam, do you think that they did not celebrate their own tradition, they have their own culture and traditions there do and practice which we here thought it is wrong. Americans that brought Christian to we here, do you think they don't have anything there celebrate, they celebrate Halloween festival. Can't we see that, almost all festival in the whole igala land has been cancelled in the 1956 when the Attah Obaje became Attah, I read about a festival in years back about a festival called ..(uja ukoje) which promotes igala people's as a tribe with great farmers, using their holes for the ceremony, it was abolished in 1950 when some Igala chief went to colonial master and told them that then Attah Ameh Oboni uses it in killing people for sacrifice. It was abolished. Our masquarades which we called Egwu that we use to celebrate festival is not longer active.
Let me ask you a question, if you are on the road and you are been ask who are you? Will you called your self Christian or Muslim first? "No" you will not rather you will called your tribe, your language first before religion. Your tribe(traditon, culture, and norms) is who you are not religion and your religion is what you are. I posted a picture and a post about How Attah is to be greeted but some people say that they can't bow or prostrate before him that it is against their religion. I decided to delete the post not to causes any more argument.
Yoruba and Igala who is more Islamic, the Yoruba Muslim prostrate on the floor for their kapiesi. They bow while some igala Muslim are saying it is not right. Igbo(ibo) and igala who is more Christian, the Ibo's respect tradition. Respecting tradition of the land does not means that you are now a idol worshipers.
If you google about Saudi Arabia monarch, you will discover that more respect is given to them. They don't joke with their monarch, but down here, they say no.
There's was a masquerade ceremony that use to take place during last Sallah period it is known as Egwu Onoko, the red masquerade that use to come out during that time. This masquerade has been many years now it has been coming out. But some clerics went to Attah Igala and ask him to stop the masquerade to been holding it's annual ceremony that there are not traditionalist (masquerade to me is form of entertainment of people when they dance or perform). Then the Attah Harken to their voice and stop the masquerade from performing.
Bible and Quran does not preached against law already put in place. Even Jesus Christ is a respecter of law and Muhammad S. A.W is too respecter of law.
If not for our king Old Attah who risked their life for igala people to stand, will they be anything like Igala kingdom. they fight with other kingdom when they try to killed our fore fathers. The law preserves our fore fathers. According to traditional historical is what I give you.
This post is not against religion, respecting tradition is very necessary and does not mean that you are worshipping them. If you say king, king is always say as traditional ruler, like we have traditional ruler of Onisha, traditional ruler of idoma and so "traditional" this is the era of eye opening for new generation. We igalas are loosing our culture, festival, tradition. Our tradition is our identity, who we are(tribe) is necessary first before what we are(religion).
When I also post in this page before I deleted it that Attah Igala is also regarded as "god" in human form. Note me there my God is spelt in small letter not big letter "god" not 'God" because we have God that is in heaven greater than everyone on earth. But traditionally it is believed to be god. But I deleted the post because I was insulted and I urge those that copy the post to delete it from where ever they paste it.
Thanks and God bless you.

Fact:Lokoja as an Igala entity

LOKOJA AND AJAOKUTA AS AN IGALA ENTITY.
There's has been lot of argument over which tribes owns Lokoja which the ebira claims is theirs without any backing or history that back their claim. But I have history backing the Igala.
On 3rd September 1841, some groups of white men came to Idah to visit the Attah who by that time is Attah Amocheje son of Itodo Aduga to have meeting with him to stop slaves trade in Igala land which by then was rampant. He agrees to stop the slaves trade and embrace peace. There also ask of the King to share his farmland for them to stay and also some black slave can farm. Also for them(white men) to supervise and rule the two protectorate so that peace will stay.
Even though it is hard and difficult for him. the Attah agrees to their demand. The white men under the command of their Queen , brought a agreement paper before the king to sign as an agreement. But he allows his chief head of law to sign unbehalf of him.
After then, the white men thank him and gave him some gift, the land he gave them was "lelikoja"(lokoja) and the surrounding of "AJA-AMA OKUTA" but the white men find it difficult in calling it then they begin to call it "lokoja" and "Ajaokuta". From there the rule Nigeria as the first capital of northern and southern protectorate. The town begins to receive different people as the capital. And many structure begins to start. The first settlers of lokoja was the white men which the Attah told to stay for a while and also to rule from there(not ebira).
With this I don't think any Ebira will still argue that there owns Lokoja, what that surprise me most is some of their community that there have chief, if we research into it, you will discover that it all started in1900s. The real agreement paper picture which the White men gave the Attah to sign is in many Igala books which proves it. Have researched on this and read all this from many history booking back.
This is the truth and I can't lie, I know many non Igala will insult me.
Ask many history scholar and they will tell you the truth.
One of my reference I remember is this,
Reference:ukoche Igala, eko kpai egba
By national commission for mass Education Abuja
Released in 1996.
With this you will know the truth of Lokoja as an IGALA land.

Idah, Igala traditional Headquarters of Igala

BRIEF HISTORY OF IDAH TOWN. THE TRADITIONAL
CAPITAL OF IGALA KINGDOM
Idah is an ancient metropolitan town
located in present day Kogi State of
Nigeria. Primarily populated by the Igala
tribe, Idah is regarded as the traditional
capital (headquarters) of the Igala
Kingdom. It is also a small local
government area in Kogi State. The
predominant language spoken here is
Igala.
Geography and Demography
Idah, an old river port town, lies on a
sandstone cliff on the east bank of the
River Niger in the North central (Middle
Belt) region of the country. Directly
overlooking Idah land across the river,
i.e., on the west bank of the Niger, is
Aganebode in the South-south
geopolitical zone of the country, which
serves as the capital and ancestral city
of all Weppa-Wanno (predominantly
Etsako speaking) people and as the
administrative headquarters of Etsako
East Council.
During the 2006 headcount, the
population figure of the area, whose
landmass is approximately 36 sq km (14
sq miles), was put at 79, 815 people.
On the globe, Idah Local Council Area of
which Idah is the headquarters, can be
located on coordinates 7o 05’ N 6o 45’
E / 7.083o N 6.750o E at an altitude of
approximately 62 metres.
Idah has commercial routes on the River
Niger linking Lokoja, the Kogi State
Capital, through to the north of the
country, Onitsha in Anambra State, to the
South, and Aganebode in Edo State,
across the Niger with the aid of ferry
service, to the west. Roads from the
town lead to Nsukka and Ayangba as
well.
History and Politics
Different versions of Oral tradition
concerning the origin of Idah and the
entire Igala have been given. While some
have related the Igala to the Yorubas in
the west, others believe they migrated
from the ancient Jukun Empire and may
have the same ancestral lineage with the
Idomas in Benue State, yet some
accounts recognise part of Igalaland,
especially Idah, as being inhabited by
migrants from Benin in the early teen
centuries. The variation may have
stemmed from proximity factors and the
fact that the Igalas have, in part, cultural
affiliations with the west, the Jukun
offshoots, and Benin. However, some
inhabitants of Idah and their Weppa-
Wanno cousins on the other side of the
River Niger in Edo State believe their
origin is traceable to the ancient Benin
Kingdom, even the close cultural
similarities among the people on both
sides point to that. According to a report,
the Iyase (Prime Chief) of Weppa-Wanno
kingdom, High Chief A. O. Ethuakhor,
once said that the Igala people who
reside in Idah might have moved and
crossed the river by a stroke of
opportunity long before those who settled
at Aganebode at the west-side bank of
the Niger.
He said: “The origination from Benin is
very clear. We migrated from Benin and
it is the barrier of the Niger that stopped
the movement. It is possible that the
Igala people crossed earlier. Aganebode
moved here in the fifteenth century and
the people of Idah could have moved
earlier. It is because of the barrier that
our people settled here and that is how
the name itself evolved. A-gane-gbode
means Settle down here; we are not
passing beyond.”
This account was partly corroborated by
the Achadu Igala (Second to Attah of
Igala), Alhaji Yusuf Ameadaji, who said
there are still some Edo-speaking people
now indigenous to Idah.
From either of the two banks, the other
town is visible. And maybe to sustain the
buoyant commercial activities and trade
between them, there are two important
markets located on either of the shores.
In Idah, the historic Ega Market, located
close to the river bank, welcomes traders
and goods transported from Aganebode
across the river, while the Bode Market
is the first point of contact on arrival
from the Idah side. In both markets, Igala
and Etsako languages are used for
commercial transactions. Traders from
both towns converge at the markets
every five days to buy and sell. Common
commodities of exchange at the markets
include palm oil, cassava flour, garri, fish,
fruits, yams and domestic animals.
As if to further collaborate the legend of
the Igala-speaking Idah people migrating
from Benin, a historical account has it
that Idah was brought under the
jurisdiction of the kingdom of Benin by
Oba (King) Esigie in the early 16th
century. From Benin, the polity of Idah
adopted both a system of kingship and
the art of cire perdue (“lost wax”) casting
in bronze. It was also believed that
Tsoede, the son of an early Attah (“king”,
the title of the paramount traditional ruler
of the Igala nation till date), left Idah and
conquered and refounded the kingdom of
Nupe (near the confluence of the Niger
and Kaduna rivers); he is also said to
have introduced to the Nupe people the
art of bronze casting, for which they
later became well known.
The Attah Igala, who now sits on the
foremost traditional throne of Igala land,
is His Royal Majesty (HRM), Michael
Ameh Oboni II. He succeeded HRM,
Alhaji Aliyu Obaje who died in July, 2012.
Economy
During the 19th century, Idah was a
thriving port, trading palm oil and kernels
and rubber to Europeans and staple
crops, cotton, woven cloth, horses and
other livestock, pots, and knives to the
Igbo people just to the south. The Igala
were able to maintain strict control over
the lower Niger trade, north of Idah (no
Igbo boats were allowed above the port),
partially because just south of the town,
the Niger valley emerges from a narrow,
rocky section to some wide, extensive
floodplains.
Modern Idah remains a major trading
centre (palm produce, yams, cassava
[manioc], rice, and fish) on the river.
Besides trade and farming, the local
population is engaged in making canoes,
fishing nets, and soap; handicrafts and
cotton weaving are also significant.
There are limestone deposits in the
vicinity and coal deposits near Ankpa, 68
miles (109 km) east-northeast.
Religion
As was the case with most African
settings, the Igala people adhere to the
three main religions in Nigeria: traditional
African religion, Christianity and Islam.
Islam is the predominant religion in
Igalaland of which Idah remains the
nucleus. Before the introduction of Islam
in Igala, the Igala had a very powerful
kingdom that was driven spiritually by
African religion (or what you may call
paganism) which is no longer popular
with the people today. Though Usman
dan Fodio’s jihad war in the early 19th
century did not extend to Igalaland,
majority of the inhabitants embraced
Islamic faith in the aftermath of the
religious war. The influence of Islam in
Igalaland emanated out of political
circumstance. Igalaland, which falls
geographically to the South (of Nigeria),
was made to belong to the North
politically. The Hausa/Fulani who were
the most influential political group in the
North were mostly Muslims. As the
political heavy weights, the rest—who
number about two hundred ethnic groups
—fell under their political and religious
influence. Hence Islam became popular
among the inhabitants of the area.
On the other hand, a good number of
inhabitants of Idah, though in the
minority, are Christains. Christian
missionaries have been active among the
Igala since the 1860s and, as was
customary of the early missionaries, the
teaching of the Christian faith was done
side by side with the spreading of
western education. Idah’s Roman
Catholic community is the sponsor of a
secondary school and a teacher-training
college to the benefit of many families in
the area. That was how the foundation of
western education became established,
and today, Idah has primary, secondary,
and tertiary educational institutions
spread across the Kingdom. The Federal
Polytechnic, Idah, established in the year
1977 (then as Idah College of
Technology), is one of the outstandingly
reputed technical schools in Nigeria that
has produced technocrats in many areas
of human endeavour.
Culture
Idah people are good observers of moral
ethics such as respect for elders, decent
dressing, and table manners, among
others. The act of greeting is highly
cherished among the people: on such
occasions, pleasantries are exchanged
passionately for as long as two to five
minutes when two people meet.
Infants from most parts of the kingdom
usually receive three deep horizontal
cuts on each side of the face, slightly
above the corners of their mouths, as a
way of identifying them. However, this
practice is becoming less common.

Igala security, Government Neglecting us

INSECURITY IN IGALALAND: AN OPEN LETTER TO
MR. PRESIDENT
We wish to call your urgent and immediate
attention to the current spate of crime, killings
and mayhem in Igala land. The hit squad has a
tripod of FULANI HERDSMEN, KIDNAPPERS and
MURDEROUS THUGS as anchors.
TRIPOD 1: MENACE OF HERDSMEN:
Until very recently, the Igala people and Fulani
herdsmen lived peaceably but gone seems to be
those days following the multiple acts of war and
mayhem being unleashed daily on innocent
farmers and law-abiding citizens in their villages,
homes and farm lands.
For instance within the space of Mid-2015 to
now, Igala land has witnessed several incidences
of killings as a result of herdsmen violence in
several areas including Ebeje where 8 people
were killed and farms set ablaze, Agbada/Agojeju
where 19 people were slaughtered, Edede – 2
persons were killed, 6 people killed in Oganenigu,
3 people killed in Ojapata, 5 people killed in
Ojuwo Anawo. All these happened in Dekina
Local Government Area.
The story is not different in Ofu local government
area at Ojuwo Omachi and Akpagidigbo where
the incessant attacks of herdsmen have claimed
the lives of over 20 persons.
In Abejukolo and Bagana in Omala Local
Government Area, the reign of terror resonates
loudly, so much that our people no longer move
freely to and from their farm lands because of
the fear of killings, maiming and rape, with some
villages like Ebakume wholly sacked and entire
farm produce granaries/silos completely burnt.
These heavily armed cattle rearers keep flaunting
their prowess in the handling of AK 47 rifles and
double barrel guns.
Our fathers lived peacefully and harmoniously
with the Fulani herdsmen for several generations
when all they carried was just their wooden-rod.
Their current behaviour and disposition are thus
very strange to the people of the land. There is
therefore need to curtail their new penchant for
impunity which is obviously been fuelled by
horrible killer machines they now brandish in the
likes of AK47 and other types of dangerous rifles/
weapons.
TRIPOD 2: KIDNAPPING
Incidences of kidnapping in Igala land has
become nightmarish, the height of which is the
new trend in the kidnap of foreigners.
A Chinese woman - LILLY YUNPIN was
kidnapped at Etutekpe in Dekina local
Government Area, until a ransom was paid
recently. This is a clear negation of the stance of
the Government on security and free business
environment for foreigners.
Kogi is known to be the largest producer of
cashew nuts in Nigeria today and thus attracts
an influx of export merchants. This development
obviously has effect on the non-oil FX earnings
of the country as long as the business
environment fails to guarantee the security of
exporters seeking to purchase from farm- gates
that are considered unsafe.
Again, Just last week, Dr. Barnabas, a Medical
Doctor at the Kogi State University, Anyigba in
Dekina Local Government Area was kidnapped
and ransom had to be paid for his release.
The serial kidnap of locals working in the local
government offices and others in their respective
businesses have become too numerous to list.
TRIPOD 3: KILLER THUGS
Cold blooded murder and assassination of
innocent citizens have become the order of the
day in Igala land. The land is yet to recover
from the gruesome murder of Chief ISA EDIME,
the Producer of the popular 2nd republic radio
programme “Democracy in action” and retired
Director of the Federal Radio Corporation of
Nigeria (FRCN) who was brazenly murdered in
broad day light in his residence at Egume in
Dekina LGA by yet to be identified gunmen.
Very recently, Idah, the traditional seat of the
Igala kingdom was visited by an orgy of
unprecedented exchange of gunfire which
happened for two straight days (April 24th –
25th 2016, ) and left 13 people dead.
Chief Simon Shaibu, the district head of Ejule, in
Ofu LGA was killed in similar manner on Saturday
April 30 2016. In an open display of firearms, the
District Head was directly shot at in his
residence in a brigandage that left everybody in
terror, despair and wondering who would be the
next victim.
UFEDO FOUNDATION on behalf of Igala sons
and daughters condemns the impunity, surge in
violence and brazen display of military weapons
that is now reigning in Igala land. The
phenomenal level of blindness being feigned in
what seems like a conspiracy of silence by
Government at all levels is also condemnable .
Governments at all levels have remained quiet,
while fears of continuing killing is causing
despair, terror and paralysis in commerce,
economic and social activities. Igala sons and
daughters in this escalated level of insecurity
can’t even risk home travels anymore, the
farmers cannot continue farming activities
because of the fear of either killer-herdsmen
brandishing AK 47 rifles or violent cult groups
parading dangerous weapons. Exportation of
cash crops from Igala land is now at a great
mercantile risk including cashew nuts, sesame
seeds etc.
The people cannot continue to live under this
terror any further and hence demand that the
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria act
immediately AND NOW. We demand a halt to
this reign of terror in Igala land.
Mr President, We observe further that law
enforcement agencies as presently located in the
land are obviously too sparse to provide the
required security cover for the entire land. We
wish you could for a moment imagine that the
entire geography of the then Igala Native
Authority is still having only one Area Police
Command covering 9 local governments.
The Igala Native Authority as you very well know
was second only to Kano N.A in the old Northern
Nigeria in terms of economy and commerce. The
Igala ethno-nationality which is reputed to be
the 9th largest tribe in Nigeria is yet to have any
form of military or functional Mobile Police
Formation.
Mr President Sir, this gaping absence of security
formations and units in Igala land has continued
to fuel impunity and security breaches.
Igala land did not bargain for this bloodletting in
the change regime we all contributed in
entrenching. We therefore demand reinforced
security presence in Igala land to deal with the
terror been perpetrated by criminals, murderous
thugs and kidnappers in the land.
The desire of Igala land has always been peace
and an environment devoid of rancour. Strong
police presence and other security apparatus
which are currently non-existent if provided, will
create adequate institutional framework for
dealing with all these crimes as well as
deployment of preventive strategies.
Additionally we demand a full scale
investigation of all these killings with a view to
finding lasting solutions as no one seems to be
attending to them under any serious order, while
the families keep asking for justice.
The time to commence full scale investigation
into these killings and curtail the resultant
criminal activities from these dastardly acts of
kidnapping and blood shedding and herdsmen
violence IS NOW.
As the President and Commander-in-Chief of all
the armed forces, it is within your powers to do
and/or direct all these prayers to be answered,
hence this letter to you at this very auspicious
time, when a replacement for late Barr James
Ocholi (SAN) at the Federal Executive Council is
yet to be named, Kogi-East Senatorial election
remains inconclusive, the Kogi state caucus in
the House of Representatives is seemingly
overwhelmed by these happenings at home and
the Kogi House of Assembly remains shut.
We therefore urge your Excellency to take
immediate action and save Igala land from
further descent into a state of anarchy.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria
God bless the President
God bless Kogi state
God bless Igala land

Igala sovereignty is the way

 Nation Unite Freedom Fighter

REASONS WHY IGALAS NEED OUR OWN INDEPENDENT COUNTRY ON OUR OWNS AS IGALA.

the agitation to
liberate the middle belt from the core North would
be meaningless if we still subject ourselves to the
south or any other region after the disintegration of
Nigeria.
For we to be satisfied, we must be independent. We
have come of age.
We have large and productive land for all purposes,
vast mineral resources, and loving people.
Everyone wants to be attached with the middle belt
because all their interest is to exploit our rich
mineral resources not because they truly have our
interest at heart.
My regrets for middle belt is that they lost their
cultures to either the North or south and inferiority
complex.
Most feel happy when they speak another mans
language than theirs or elated when they claim
another mans state of origin than theirs. No unique
way of dressing, it is either they are copying the
core Northerner or the southerners. Being a
minority does not take your right from you. The
ijaws, urhobo of even itshekiri in the south south
are all minorities but have been able to hold their
over the years thus more relevant in today's
Nigeria.
Though, being multi ethnic and religion in nature, we
would still have a major issue to battle with if
independent but believe me, no country is void of
issues. It is better we fight for total independence
than basking in euphoria of been attached to a
region.

How Igala were Cut from south

HOW IGALA AND IDOMA PEOPLE WERE CUT FROM EASTERN REGION AND PUT THEM IN NORTH CENTER(MIDDLE BELT).
Igala ethnic group in Kogi State are sharing the same land boundary with the Igbo at the north side with the Idoma people in Benue State. Before 1960s Idah which is the traditional headquarter of Igala people were medge with the Onitsha as protectorate. All powers were shares among them. Some part of Igala kingdom were divided and some to Gboko protectorate. (IDAH in Igala Land is up to 15 minutes drive to Nsukka). Igala and Idoma were fully involved in economy running in the eastern part.
Later in 1960s, some part of Igala kingdom and the whole Idoma land were ceeded to the north center. Igala people in Kogi state are sharing the same land boundary with the Igbo, Igala land extend to anambra, Enugu, Ebony I.
The Igala people shares the same culture and tradition with the Igbo like

The I galas called cassava Abacha so as to Igbo.
The I galas called Rice osikapa so as to Igbo
The I galas uses kola and palm wine as sign of respect and greetings so as to Igbo.
The called vegetables as Ugwu so as to Igbo.
In terms of names, Igala bears okolo, onah, On uh, Atama, Am aka, Oge, Ejura and so on so as to Igbo.
The I galas has various masquerade festivals so as to Igbo.
The relationship cannot be undermined. In terms of economy, the I galas have coal in some part, oil which the I galas and Igbo are fighting for, limestone which the so called Dangote is using the Igala limestone in making money for his cement production, Agriculture, Yam and Cassava in largest quantity and so on.
Igala land are blessed with steel but due to Nigeria Bad government we were not able to exploit.

Igala Kingdom are rule by the Attah of Igala Kingdom His Royal Majesty Chief Michael Ameh Oboni 11.
