IGALA RElIGION AND IGALA TRADITION AND CULTURE.
The advent of foreign religion like Christains And Islam(muslim) has affected us both positive and negative. We some times misunderstood what religion is all about and what tradition is all about. Our pride as a tribe(Igala) is not language but our culture, value, norms and tradition. We Igala are religion blinded by foreigner. Our tradition has been there for over 100s of years ago (centuries past). Our fore fathers are not Christian or Muslim. It is only in Igala that we use religion as an excuse for anything tradition. Saudi Arabia people that brought Islam, do you think that they did not celebrate their own tradition, they have their own culture and traditions there do and practice which we here thought it is wrong. Americans that brought Christian to we here, do you think they don't have anything there celebrate, they celebrate Halloween festival. Can't we see that, almost all festival in the whole igala land has been cancelled in the 1956 when the Attah Obaje became Attah, I read about a festival in years back about a festival called ..(uja ukoje) which promotes igala people's as a tribe with great farmers, using their holes for the ceremony, it was abolished in 1950 when some Igala chief went to colonial master and told them that then Attah Ameh Oboni uses it in killing people for sacrifice. It was abolished. Our masquarades which we called Egwu that we use to celebrate festival is not longer active.
Let me ask you a question, if you are on the road and you are been ask who are you? Will you called your self Christian or Muslim first? "No" you will not rather you will called your tribe, your language first before religion. Your tribe(traditon, culture, and norms) is who you are not religion and your religion is what you are. I posted a picture and a post about How Attah is to be greeted but some people say that they can't bow or prostrate before him that it is against their religion. I decided to delete the post not to causes any more argument.
Yoruba and Igala who is more Islamic, the Yoruba Muslim prostrate on the floor for their kapiesi. They bow while some igala Muslim are saying it is not right. Igbo(ibo) and igala who is more Christian, the Ibo's respect tradition. Respecting tradition of the land does not means that you are now a idol worshipers.
If you google about Saudi Arabia monarch, you will discover that more respect is given to them. They don't joke with their monarch, but down here, they say no.
There's was a masquerade ceremony that use to take place during last Sallah period it is known as Egwu Onoko, the red masquerade that use to come out during that time. This masquerade has been many years now it has been coming out. But some clerics went to Attah Igala and ask him to stop the masquerade to been holding it's annual ceremony that there are not traditionalist (masquerade to me is form of entertainment of people when they dance or perform). Then the Attah Harken to their voice and stop the masquerade from performing.
Bible and Quran does not preached against law already put in place. Even Jesus Christ is a respecter of law and Muhammad S. A.W is too respecter of law.
If not for our king Old Attah who risked their life for igala people to stand, will they be anything like Igala kingdom. they fight with other kingdom when they try to killed our fore fathers. The law preserves our fore fathers. According to traditional historical is what I give you.
This post is not against religion, respecting tradition is very necessary and does not mean that you are worshipping them. If you say king, king is always say as traditional ruler, like we have traditional ruler of Onisha, traditional ruler of idoma and so "traditional" this is the era of eye opening for new generation. We igalas are loosing our culture, festival, tradition. Our tradition is our identity, who we are(tribe) is necessary first before what we are(religion).
When I also post in this page before I deleted it that Attah Igala is also regarded as "god" in human form. Note me there my God is spelt in small letter not big letter "god" not 'God" because we have God that is in heaven greater than everyone on earth. But traditionally it is believed to be god. But I deleted the post because I was insulted and I urge those that copy the post to delete it from where ever they paste it.
Thanks and God bless you.
